11/16/2018 | NWPC Attends International Conference

On 15-16 November 2018, NWPC representatives participated in the eighth annual Mining Industry in the Barents Euro-Arctic Region: View to the Future (IMIC BEAR 2018), which took place in Kirovsk, Murmansk Region, Russia, as part of the Murmansk International Business Week.

This year, the theme of the Conference was “Modernization of Mining, Chemical and Metallurgical Enterprises aimed at Integrated Development of the Mineral Resource Base”. The Conference was held under the auspices of Russian Mining Operators, a non-profit partnership, and with the support of the Government of Murmansk Region.

In his opening speech, Alexei Tiukavin, the First Deputy Governor of Murmansk region, noted that the time has come for all local businesses to join efforts in development in the Arctic region. “What matters is not just that we follow a schedule for modernization, but that we use the most modern technologies to keep up with the times!” Mr. Tiukavin said.

For two days, politicians, scientists, top managers and business leaders from Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, Canada, Germany and Russia discussed the mining industry in a series of formal and informal meetings. The North-Western region is rich in natural resources and technologies, putting Murmansk region in the world market of the mining industry.

A plenary session of the conference was attended by representatives of the region’s industrial companies. Evgeny Schetinin, NWPC Deputy CEO and Technical Director, spoke about the Company’s development and its use of modern technologies. This year saw the commissioning of several important facilities, including a ventilation building with heater, main step-down substation, explosives warehouse, pumping station, underground repair shops, maintenance preparation centre and revamped entry checkpoint. The Company is currently introducing a dispatching system and automated production management systems at its mine facilities.

This year, NWPC acted as the general partner of IMIC BEAR 2018.
