The Oleniy Ruchey underground mine (NWPC) conducted an emergency drill simulating fire extinguishment and people rescue. This exercise was an important step to strengthen cooperation between the emergency services and the mine’s employees and improve their readiness to respond to emergencies.
According to the drill scenario, a fire broke out in the engine area of a loading and hoisting unit during repairs and then spread to the conveyor slope at the depth of approximately 40 metres. An alert was issued, and paramilitary rescue teams from the Russian Ministry of Emergency Management were sent to the site. Thanks to the joint efforts of the drill’s participants, the simulated fire was extinguished and those affected received the necessary assistance.
Ranif Zakirov, Head of the Industrial Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Protection Department at NWPC, believes that this fire drill was organised excellently: ‘Now, we know for sure that our mine personnel and auxiliary facility staff are fully prepared to respond quickly to actual threats and cooperate effectively with the professional units of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Management. The ability to act promptly and correctly in any emergency is the key to protecting the lives and health of our employees’.
